Somnath, meaning "Lord of the Soma (Moon)", is the first among the twelve Aadi Jyotirlingas of India.

Located at the confluence of Kapila, Hiran, and Saraswati rivers (Triveni Sangam), this temple is a masterpiece of Kailash Mahameru Prasad architecture. It stands as a beacon of Sanatan Dharma's resilience, having been reconstructed time and again.

Timeline of Resilience

Ancient Era

Legend says the first temple was built in Gold by the Moon God, Silver by Ravana, and Wood by Lord Krishna.

1026 CE

Mahmud of Ghazni raided the temple, looting its immense wealth and destroying the idol.

1706 CE

Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb ordered the destruction of the temple. It lay in ruins for centuries.

1951 CE

The Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, pledged to rebuild it. Pran Pratishtha done by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
