Kartikeya was upset and moved to Mount Krauncha. Shiva and Parvati followed him and stayed here as Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba.
The current structure's origins date back to the Chalukyas. The lingam is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu).
Extensive renovations by the Reddi Kings and later the Vijayanagara Empire. King Krishnadevaraya built the beautiful Mukha Mandapa.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj visited the temple and built the northern gopuram to restore its glory.
The main tower is plated in gold, shining brilliantly in the sun, a testament to royal devotion.
Built by Krishnadevaraya, this hall features 42 intricately carved pillars depicting puranic scenes.
The small, self-manifested lingam is accessible to devotees for direct touch and abhishekam.
